Reading

Choosing the Right Book - dropeverythingandread.com produced an excellent handout that can help a teacher librarian or teacher help a student pick a book if they are unsure of what to read. I get these requests quite regularly and if you want someone to read, focus on what they like and that will narrow their selection down. The broader website contains resources to help make the most of reading time (or DEAR as I call it).

Reading Matters - Website dedicated to the importance of reading in Children. Contains useful resources.

Reading Guides & Suggestions

Inside a Dog (State Library of Victoria)

Teen Books (The Guardian, UK) - Useful Reviews and features on literature for Children and Young Adults.

Bookshops:

Booko.com.au - This site allows you to locate the availability of a book on sale through online booksellers and compare prices.

Booktopia - One of Australia's most popular online bookstores.

Bookworld - My personal favourite for buying books. Best range at the best prices in Australia.

Dymocks - Australia's leading bookshop chain.

The Childrens Bookshop (Beecroft, NSW) - Online bookstore specialising in providing literature for school libraries.

Reading Initatives

Australia Reads - Previously known as the National Reading Hour, this is planned for September 17. People are encouraged to engage in reading for one hour. The site was not in operation in March 2020, but should appear closer to the date.
